The Mind Like a Lake

In yoga, the idea of the mind as a lake comes directly from the ancient teachings especially from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. In Yoga Sutra 1.2, Patanjali writes:

“Yogaḥ citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ” Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.

Here, citta means the mind or consciousness, and vṛtti are the waves or movements thoughts, emotions, impressions. When those waves calm down, the lake of the mind becomes clear and still.

Only then can we see our true reflection  the essence of who we really are.

When we allow the mind to rest, the reflections of our true self begin to appear.Through yoga and art, we can learn that creativity and peace come from the same source: presence. It’s not about doing more  it’s about listening more deeply. That’s where movement begins, where brushstrokes flow, where transformation happens.
